Welcome to quaintly distilled art of Greg Slawko

Greg Slawko's unique sense of humor, often referred to as "quaintly distilled" and his life long love of the macabre lead him into a world of fantasy which he enjoys sharing with others.
As a designer for the theatre for over forty years, he would often look for ways of using up scraps and left over bits so as not to just 'junk' them. his art became his outlet for using and recycling the left over bits and pieces.
Now retired from theatre design, he still keeps his work 'green' by finding items and bits and incorporating them into his art.
Masque Appeal started when Greg began to look into the history of masks and masquerade. He discovered that hideous and grotesque masks often cover beautiful faces. And a beautiful mask might be used to hide an ugly face. By incorporating both ideas together he tries to create looks that reflect the beauty of grotesqueness and the grotesquesness of beauty.
While most of Greg's work displays his "quality distilled" ideas, he tries to keep a sense of humor in his work. Although some of the pieces are considered macabre or grotesque, they are never gory of violent. He would rather illicit a smile or a
laugh than a "yech" or an "ich!"
